Last month we read The Mountain Is You by Brianna Wiest. Most of our discussions regarding the book related to the idea of internal battles we wage against ourselves. The idea that we set limitations on ourselves ultimately leading to self-sabotage.

Key Takeaways from the book that we'll continue to explore more in depth in individual sessions:

  • Limiting beliefs can hinder our progress and happiness

  • Becoming aware of our thoughts and emotional responses is the first step to challenging and reframing negative patterns

  • Mindfulness and being present in the moment can help reduce self-sabotage

  • Approach challenges with a compassionate and supportive mindset

  • Personal growth is a continuous process

Here are some ways to implement the Mountain Is You into everyday life...

  1. Learn and practice mindfulness (journaling, deep breathing, mindfulness activities on Youtube etc)

  2. Utilize positive affirmations, create a vision board, start therapy

  3. Practice self-compassion (speak kindly to and about yourself, celebrate small wins, decrease self-criticism)

  4. Set realistic goals and focus on progress not perfection
